THE QUALITY YOU FEEL
Production of hop in the valley Savinska dolina began in the
second half of the 19th century.
From that first plantations it steadily grew to about 300 tons
in 1945 and reached even 4000 tons per year in the following
decades.
Nowadays hop is cultivated on 1200 ha and production amounts
to around 2500 tons.
Four varieties are basically produced in our region:
- AURORA – SUPER STYRIAN
- SAVINJSKI GOLDING
- CELEIA – STYRIAN GOLDING
- BOBEK
All of them are aromatic. The Aurora -Super Styrian is well
known by an outstandingly high alpha (about 8%), while other
varieties are characterized by specific aromas, ascribed to the
local climate influence.
Trade company Inbarco is a traditional exporter of Slovenian
hops. We sell them in Germany, Great Britain, America, Eastern
Europe and Far East. Our hops are used by all major world
breweries like Inbev, SAB-Miller, Anheuser Busch, Heineken,
Baltik Beverage. Of course our hops also take an important
part in the production of Slovenian breweries Pivovarna Laško
and Pivovarna Union.
Production of hops in Slovenia is monitored by the Žalec Institute of
Hop-growing and Beer-making. Our hop market is controlled by Hop
Commission, which is a state institution. The Commission processes
all data related to hop production in Slovenia and is authorised to
issue certificates of quality on the base of cultivation report, visual
examination and laboratory analyses.
Hops are exported in various manners:
1. Hop cones
Packed in 60 to 80 kg bags. These cones are usually intended for
further compression (pellets, plugs) or extraction.
2. Hops in type 90 pellets
- Pellets are vacuum packed in 5 or 10 kg aluminum bags. Four or
five such bags are put in the cardboard box, 12 to 15 such boxes
form one euro-pallet.
Brikete so vakumsko pakirane v alumo vrečah teže 5 ali 10 kg. Po 4 do 5 takih vreč je vloženih v kartonsko škatlo, 12 do 15 kartonov pa na evro paleto.
